School-aged children living within Broward County are assigned to a school based on their primary residential address and grade level. This is the child's boundary school. We understand families want to have options for their child's education, which may include a choice other than their boundary school.
During the School Choice Phase I application window (December 1, 2016 – February 8, 2017), you may submit three applications for your child – one in each of the following categories:
- Magnet programs focus on specific areas of interest
- Nova schools provide four schools on one campus (K-12)
- School reassignments allow a student to attend a school other than his or her boundary school based on space availability
During the School Choice Phase II application window (May 1, 2017 – September 1, 2017), you may submit two applications for your child for remaining available seats for magnet programs or school reassignments. The application window for Nova schools closed on February 8, 2017.
Applicants who applied during School Choice Phase I do not need to apply during School Choice Phase II unless a magnet program or reassignment school change is desired.
Please note: A separate application is needed for each of the school choice categories.
