September 11th, 2001.
It's a date that changed the world forever.
In the year since the terrorist attacks, Broward County students have
tried to come to grips with what happened and have expressed themselves
in many ways.
From writing cards and letters to those directly affected by the tragic
events to building memorials to fundraising campaigns, Broward's students
began to heal -- and to learn what it means to be an American citizen.
On the one year anniversary of the attacks, students across Broward
marked the solemn occasion. While they know life goes on, they understand
the importance of remembering and keeping the memories of that day
alive.
The Grammy Award winning Flanagan High School Music Department,
recognized by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Grammy
Foundation, joined the Flanagan Theater Department in a special night
of entertainment. The memorial anniversary was a musical celebration
featuring the Flanagan High School bands, choirs, orchestra, color
guard, drama players and the NJROTC and the premier performance of "Sapier's
Story," a special composed musical tribute to commemorate the
events of September 11th. A poem entitled "I Know It," written
by fourth grade New York City student, Sapier Behr, was the inspiration
for this music.
