Fifty members of the National School Board Association
(NSBA) are spending two and one half days in Broward County Schools getting
a first-hand look at how technology is improving student achievement.
The group, composed of superintendents, chief operating officers, teachers,
parents and school board members from across the country, are seeing
how different software, hardware, and integrated operating systems function
in the District. NSBA conducts tech site visits each spring. Broward
was first on this year’s list. Montgomery County, Maryland and
Forsyth County, Georgia will follow.
During the visit, the group is focusing on projects designed to
empower students, teachers, administrators and parents by maximizing
the potential of web-based literacy and web-based resources, and
meeting “No
Child Left Behind” technology literacy requirements.
The group has seen a presentation about technology produced by students
from the Pompano Beach Middle School Magnet Program, and participated
in a round table discussion about some of the systems and operating
programs in place in Broward. They will continue to tour school sites
tomorrow.
