It's that time of year again – time when
kids turn in their remote controls and video games for pencils, rulers
and textbooks. Yep, it's time to go BACK TO SCHOOL.
This year, Broward County Public Schools expects to have more than
279,000 K-12 students in the District's 244 schools. Along with our
students, nearly 30,000 employees headed back to school – including
approximately 15,000 teachers.
And this year, three new schools have opened their doors for the
first time: Arthur Robert Ashe, Jr. Middle in Fort Lauderdale; Everglades
High in Miramar (permanent facility); and Monarch High in Coconut
Creek. While Arthur Ashe, Jr. Middle and Monarch High will be at
their new campus the first day, Everglades High will begin the year
at two separate portable locations as work on their new campus wraps
up.
We also welcomed three new charter schools to the family: Eagle Academy & Smart
School Institute High in. Lauderdale Lakes and Somerset Academy @
Davie.
But it's not just our students, staff and teachers who headed back
to class on Monday, August 25th — Superintendent of Schools
Dr. Frank Till visited a number of campuses throughout the day, too.
