On Friday, May 2nd more than 3,500 students from
Broward's public schools got a sneak peek at the 2003 McDonald's
Air & Sea Show. This annual event is a salute to the U.S. Military
that takes place on Fort Lauderdale Beach.
This year, 2,500 high school JROTC students & 1,000 middle school
students attended the event and got to see firsthand the military equipment
and training many of them will be experiencing in the not too distant
future.
In addition, the District honored its top JROTC Cadet, Ms. Vu from
Pompano Beach High School. On hand for a special presentation to Cadet
Kim Vu were members of the U.S. Army's elite Golden Knights parachute
team.
While many of the students just happy to look to the the sky to see
an F-18 Hornet or a F-14 Tomcat buzz the beach at nearly the speed
of sound, many were overheard saying: "Wow, I could do that," or "I
can't wait until I'm behind the controls of one of those."
