On Friday, December 12, 2004, college scouts from across the nation descended upon Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale to watch the best high school athletes in the nation. The Sun-Sentinel/Broward County Athletic Association (BCAA) All-Star game is one of the premier recruiting events in America.

In preparation, athletes from all 28 BCAA teams practiced 10 days leading up to the game. This is an opportunity for 100 high school seniors to showcase their talents before college scouts and recruiters. This year’s North and South teams were led by Bill Brown, Head Coach, Coral Springs High and Al Lang, Head Coach, Hollywood Hills High.

The game featured a number of the Sun-Sentinel’s All-County team including Northeast High’s Dimitri Linton. The running back was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 5A Player of the Year. Linton, who has committed to Rutgers University, finished the season with 1,674 yards. Other All-County defensive players featured in the game included: Emmanuel Cruz, running back; Carlos Huggins, offensive lineman, who committed to Boston College; Dan Karney, offensive lineman, who committed to Coast Guard Academy; Julius Mincey, wide receiver.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Sun-Sentinel Defensive Player Tajari Jones anchored the unit for the South team. The McArthur Mustang linebacker finished the season as the Mustangs leading tackler, the third year in a row. In 13 games, he recorded a school record 197 tackles, 11 fumbles and two interceptions. Other defensive all-county players included: Ben Burgess from Northeast High; Branden Daniel, De’veon Harris and Raybin Williams from Blanche Ely High; David Johnson from Western High; Lorenzo Lovely from McArthur; and Pat Sims and Vernon Smith from Dillard High.

The South won the game 16-13. The overall MVP for the North and South teams were Dimitri Linton and Aliga Betts, the running back from Cooper City High.
