The main goal of the High School Reform program for the Broward County Public Schools is to escalate student performance through a fully integrated academic system that includes high standards, curriculum, instruction, assessments and supports that provides a critical foundation for high school transformation. While there are a number of elements included in this program, one of the initial initiatives involves tailored professional development opportunities for the instructional staffs at all District high schools. This specific program is Elective Early Release Days, in which the faculties at individual high schools are empowered to schedule additional early release days throughout the school year beginning during the 2006-07 school year for the specific purpose of professional development for high school teachers.
