The School Board of Broward County, Florida, has unanimously approved the ratified Collective Bargaining Agreements reached by the District with the Federation of Public Employees (FOPE) Food Service, Clerical, Maintenance/Transportation/Facilities/Security Specialists & Campus Monitor Employee Groups; Broward Teachers Union – Education Support Professionals (BTU-ESP); and the Police Benevolent Association (PBA).

Students needing to retake an End-of-Course (EOC)  exam over the summer in Algebra, Biology, Geometry, U.S. History and/or Civics must sign-up for the exams during the registration window taking place Tuesday, June 10, 2014 – Wednesday, June 18, 2014.

Florida’s all time winningest basketball coach, Dillard High School girls’ basketball coach Marcia Pinder, has earned a place in the National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) Hall of Fame.

Today, the Florida Department of Education released 2014 FCAT 2.0 results for grades 4-10 in reading, math and science.  The overall scores show improvements from 2013 to 2014 among many grade levels for students in Broward County Public Schools (BCPS).

Congratulations to Steve Frazier, principal of Silver Trail Middle School, on being named Florida PTA’s Outstanding Principal of the Year for 2014.  He will receive the award at the annual Florida PTA Leadership/Convention, July 11-13, 2014, in Innisbrook, Florida.

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is being recognized for Global Education Excellence by EF High School Exchange Year.  

Outstanding Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) environmental stewards were celebrated at the second P3 Eco-Challenge Awards Ceremony held on May 14, 2014, at the Long Key Nature Center in Davie. 

Students with autism from five BCPS elementary schools – Dania, Everglades, Panther Run, Park Springs and Silver Lakes – and their families had the opportunity to practice a real life air travel experience as part of Autism in Flight.

Discovery Elementary second and third grade level chess champions will face off in the school’s first Human Chess Tournament. 

Thanks to the hard work and fundraising efforts of the Broward County Association of Student Councils (BCASC) and Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) middle and high school students, 43 World War II and Korean veterans will travel to Washington, DC, as part of Honor Flight South Florida on Saturday, May 31, 2014.

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is proud to have the lowest administrative costs in the state, according to a new report released by the Florida Department of Education. The report reflects data for all of Florida’s 67 school districts for the 2012/13 school year.

Fuel Up to Play 60 will hold a “Touchdown MVP” event at Oakridge Elementary in Hollywood.  At the event, retired Miami Dolphins and Pro Bowl Cornerback Sam Madison will be on-hand to speak to students about how starting every day with breakfast, eating healthy foods, being active and getting a good education can help them reach their full potential.

Today, the Florida Department of Education released FCAT 2.0 Grade 3 Reading and Math scores, as well as Writing scores for grades 4, 8 and 10.  These results represent the first round of scores to be released for the 2014 FCAT 2.0.

Broward County students and their fathers and/or father-figures, community partners and District employees
will take part in the “Me and My Dad Challenge.” 

The Walter C. Young Middle School Knights of SCRABBLE Team placed 6th in the nation at the 2014 National School SCRABBLE TOURNAMENT hosted by Hasbro, Inc., April 26-27, 2014, in Providence, Rhode Island. The team joined young SCRABBLE enthusiasts, in fourth through eighth grades, to compete for top prizes.
On Saturday, May 17, 2014, thousands of students from across Broward County will come together for the 2nd annual Above the Influence March and Rally, a yearly event to empower youth in our community.

The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (Broward MPO) has partnered with South Florida Commuter Services (SFCS), a program of the Florida Department of Transportation, and Stranahan High School’s Engineering Magnet Program to provide students with projects from the TRAC & RIDES Educational Program as well as the opportunity to participate in unique field trips this school year.

To help meet the demand and recruit high quality educators, Broward County Public Schools is hosting a Teacher Recruitment Fair. The District is focused on hiring talented and certified teachers in math and science to join its team of education professionals.

Congratulations to five Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) students for being named 2014 Gates Millennium Scholars.
The Flanagan High School Wind Orchestra brought its own magic to the wonderful world of Walt Disney during its recent visit, May 2-3, 2014. The orchestra won Best in Class and the Gold Award at the Festival Disney national competition. The Flanagan Wind Orchestra scored 99 out of 100 possible points.

William Dandy Middle School Pre-Law Magnet students participate in a “Day in the Life of a Lawyer” presentation and workshops.

Built on its current site in1913, Dania Elementary School is celebrating its 100th year. Festivities include a tree dedication ceremony, games, food and fun.

Dillard Center for the Arts finished in the top three at the 19th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival at the Lincoln Center in New York City, May 8-10, 2014.
