Turnaround Arts Artists Visit BCPS and Perform with Students at Evening with the Arts Gala

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Students, Opera Singer Carla Dirlikov Canales, Tony Award-Winning Actor John Lloyd Young and American Idol Finalist Pia Toscano

Students from Bethune Elementary School, Lake Forest Elementary School and Walker Elementary School will meet with their Turnaround Arts (TA) artists, opera singer Carla Dirlikov Canales, Tony award-winning actor John Lloyd Young, and American Idol Finalist Pia Toscano as they tour their respective TA schools.  The TA artists will teach master classes, guide students on music techniques while encouraging them to persevere in their studies and pursue their dreams.  Several students will rehearse with their TA artists later in the day for a special performance. The day will culminate at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts for an “Evening with the Arts Gala.”  The star-studded gala will feature WPLG Local 10 news anchor, Jacey Birch, as the master of ceremony, and showcase performances by the TA artists and their students. Bethune Elementary, Lake Forest Elementary and Walker Elementary were selected as a Turnaround Arts (TA) School and are among a limited number of schools in the nation awarded with this partnership by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.  TA Schools integrate a cohesive arts education model and standards throughout the curriculum.  TA artists lend their support and encouragement throughout the year to their students.
