Sheridan Technical College and GM Partner to Train Highly Skilled Automotive Technicians

Tuesday, August 30, 2016

Starting this school year, Sheridan Technical College and General Motors Corporation (GM) partner to train highly skilled automotive technicians through the GM Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP).

The training program combines state of the art automotive service, academic coursework, and real world internship experiences to provide students the best possible preparation for a career as an automotive technician. The program, formerly at Broward College, incorporates advanced automotive technical training with a strong academic foundation of math, reading and electronics, as well as analytical and technical skills using GM products.

Sheridan Technical College GM ASEP instructors are National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence certified and many have achieved GM World Class status, the highest achievement for a GM technician.

Sheridan Technical College students in the program alternate between the classroom and hands-on work experience at sponsoring GM dealership worksites. Students learn how to identify, analyze and solve complex automotive problems. While other colleges provide a generic auto mechanics program, Sheridan Technical College in partnership with GM provides the in-depth training needed in today’s high tech automotive world.

“We’re very proud of our long history of providing training and career opportunities for the community that remain on the cutting edge of technology,” said Robert Boegli, Sheridan Technical College director. “This new partnership with GM recognizes the longstanding success that Sheridan Technical College has had in the field of automotive technician training, and our success in developing a generation of modern automotive technicians, instructors, service advisors, service managers and business owners.”

Sheridan Technical College has received numerous awards, honors, Skills USA winner recognitions, and is a state leader in industry certifications.
