Broward County Public Schools Receives Magnet Schools Awards

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) garnered nine Magnet Schools of Distinction awards and two Magnet Schools of Excellence awards by Magnet Schools of America (MSA). The annual recognition celebrates magnet schools and programs for their commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful diversity efforts, specialized teaching staffs, and parent/community involvement.
 
“I am extremely proud of the accomplishments and achievements of our world-class magnet programs,” said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “These awards and designations showcase how BCPS magnet programs are preparing today’s students for future success.”
 
During a special ceremony at the 36th Annual Magnet Schools of America Conference, April 25-29, 2018, in Chicago, MSA will recognize the following magnet schools:

Two schools are also being recognized as Nationally Certified Schools by MSA. New River Middle School and South Broward High School are among 38 schools in just 12 states (AL, CA, CT, FL, GA, LA, MN, NC,
NV, SC, TN and TX) to complete a nine-month evaluation by MSA, showcasing the best practices in the Magnet Schools of Excellence program. Being recognized as a Nationally Certified School highlights these outstanding magnet programs on a national level.
 
New River Middle offers a marine magnet program providing hands-on learning activities for students with South Florida’s waterways, nautical systems, maritime businesses and industries, and ocean sciences.
 
South Broward High provides students opportunities to learn about future careers in the maritime industry. Students at South Broward High learn a lifelong sense of environmental stewardship for coral reefs, sharks and the ocean.
 
New River Middle and South Broward High will also receive recognition at this national conference in April.
