With thousands of fans, families, educators and industry leaders cheering them on, student teams from McArthur High School, West Broward High School and Western High School competed and won in the FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition.
The 2017 South Florida Regional event included 48 high school student teams who worked with professional mentors in their fields to design and build a robot over a six-week period. The robots had to solve a specific problem and use a designated kit of parts with a standard set of rules.
West Broward High School took top honors, earning a spot at the FIRST Championship, currently being held April 19-22, 2017, in Houston, Texas.
Participants in the championship are also eligible to apply for over $50 million in scholarships from leading universities, colleges and companies.
