Congratulations to Calvin Fai of Flanagan High School for being selected as a college-sponsored National Merit Scholarship recipient by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Calvin, winner of the National Merit Scholarship sponsored by the University of Florida, brings the total to 14 Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) graduates named college-sponsored National Merit Scholars.
“We are extremely proud of all of our student scholars for their hard work and dedication,” said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “We congratulate them and their families on their outstanding accomplishments, and extend best wishes for continued success in their pursuit of higher education.”
This final announcement of National Merit Scholars for 2016 by the National Merit Corporation brings the number of BCPS National Merit Scholars (all categories) to 24. In addition to college-sponsored awards, two other types of National Merit Scholarships were offered – National Merit $2,500 Scholarships and corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards. These distinguished BCPS high school graduates are among the 7,300 nationally who are receiving scholarships for undergraduate study worth a total of more than $33 million.
